In the first quarter of 2012, overall wireless LAN (WLAN) revenues grew 18% over the same period last year, driven in part by a 29% year-over-year increase in the enterprise WLAN segment. This according to a recently published study by Dell’Oro Group. Meanwhile, in the same time frame, two WLAN vendors, Ruckus Wireless and Netgear, posted record WLAN revenues, while Cisco gained 1.1 points of share in the higher-priced enterprise segment. Dell’Oro also forecast that the WLAN industry would continue to grow at double-digit rates for the foreseeable future, driven by both the delivery of higher-speed 802.11ac devices, as well as the number of service providers planning to deploy Wi-Fi devices to satisfy mobile users.
