Network Video Surveillance to Catch Fire in 2013

It’s no longer an “if” question, but a “when” one, when it comes to IP-based video surveillance. Network video surveillance will certainly take over from analog video surveillance and, according to IMS Research, it will probably happen in 2013. Of course, the arrival of new technology brings its own uncertainties and changes to what had been a fairly static segment, with IT distributors and integrators now competing with traditional security providers. IMS’s latest report, “IP Trends in Security–A Survey of Systems Integrators and Installers,” finds that 80% of North American systems integrators/installers have purchased IP-based video surveillance equipment from IT distributors, and that percentage is only expected to rise in subsequent years.
