Cord-Cutting Not Yet Affecting Pay TV Business

Despite increased talk of cord-cutting, the North American digital television market is growing at a healthy rate, according to ”North America Digital Television Forecast: 1H’12″ from Strategy Analytics. Subscriptions numbered 114 million in 2011, and are expected to reach 129 million in 2016, an annual compound growth of more than 2%, despite the near-saturation of the North American market. Currently, while cord-cutting is a hot topic, the online viewing space stills suffers from an uncompetitive slate of content when compared to traditional pay TV offerings, and therefore has, to date, not yet developed into a compelling alternative for most North American consumers.
